Super Steps

  1

Skip the Selfie and Get a Professional Looking Headshot For Your Profile Image.

Now is the time to unleash that inner model you have inside you. Your profile image needs to be a professional headshot that looks like you. Dress for the role you want. Take a clear photo of your head and shoulders. Try to refrain from selfies. If you must take the picture yourself, use a tripod or prop it up, so your head and shoulders are in the image. It s essential to make sure your lighting is good, and the background isn’t distracting. The focus should be on you because you’re the star of this career novel. Remember to smile!

  2

Choose A Cover Photo that Showcases Your Position.

Choose a cover photo that represents your position and what you do. For example, if you are developing a career as a Multi-Media Writer, you should choose an image that demonstrates “Multi-Media Writer.” Your cover photo should be a PNG with dimensions 1584 x 396 pixels.

Create An Attention-Grabbing Headline That Tells Your Story.

Your Attention-Grabbing headline needs to consist of five things:
1. What you do: Creator
2. How you do it uniquely: Jovial & Enthusiastic
3. Who do you serve: Social Outsiders Who Want To Belong
4. Title you have or you desire: Multi Media Writer
5. Secondary Title or Personal Message: Lover of Great Storytelling
Keep your headline within the LinkedIn limit of 120 characters. It may take a few tries before creating a headline you like. But don t give up! Keep it simple and straight to the point.

  4

Use Google to Find Keywords.

Type in the title of the position you have or want, and Google will give you lots of keywords that pertain to that job. Recruiters use industry and job-specific keywords to search for the perfect candidate. You will only appear in those searches if you have used the right keywords! You might as well be living in an underground bunker in Antarctica without a cell or internet service—_nobody_ will find you. The good news is that you can change those odds! Use keywords in your headline and profile page.

  5

If You Haven’t Already Used Keywords, Add Them Now.

For your last finishing touch, add a few keywords to your headline if you didn’t already. In this example, Nathan has the term Storytelling because it is a keyword for a Multi-Media Writer. It fit perfectly with Nathan’s personality and brand.
