Video Time: 2 Minutes Action Time: X Minutes
You can receive an Offer in five ways: face-to-face, video conferencing, phone, email, or text. Ideally, you would meet to negotiate face-to-face or on a video conference with the camera on. For video conferences, log on a few minutes earlier if your computer runs slow.
If you get the offer by email or text, you should ask to set up a video conference or in-person meeting to negotiate. If they can’t meet you face-to-face, Written negotiations can work out, too.
Written words can be misinterpreted because people can’t hear your tone and you want to be sure that your terms of negotiation are understood in your favor.
Always be positive, polite, and professional. SMILE! Keep it relaxed. As a reminder, pay attention to your body language. Psyche yourself up beforehand. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you deserve every penny you are going to negotiate for (and make sure they don’t actually pay you in pennies).
It’s important to note that the Accommodator, Mediator, and Intimidator are not three separate people. All
interviewers can wear all three hats with ease and they can change from one to the other in a second.
Negotiating with an Accommodator is like getting waited on at a restaurant. They are highly cooperative and will
give you everything you want. You have the upper hand because the employer needs the position filled. They want
you to be happy and accept that job offer.
