Where To Receive The Offer

You can receive an Offer in five ways: face-to-face, video conferencing, phone, email, or text. Ideally, you would meet to negotiate face-to-face or on a video conference with the camera on. For video conferences, log on a few minutes earlier if your computer runs slow.

If you get the offer by email or text, you should ask to set up a video conference or in-person meeting to negotiate. If they can’t meet you face-to-face, Written negotiations can work out, too.

Written words can be misinterpreted because people can’t hear your tone and you want to be sure that your terms of negotiation are understood in your favor.

Always be positive, polite, and professional. SMILE! Keep it relaxed. As a reminder, pay attention to your body language. Psyche yourself up beforehand. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you deserve every penny you are going to negotiate for (and make sure they don’t actually pay you in pennies).

Accommodator, Mediator, and Intimidator – You Can Get All Three

It’s important to note that the Accommodator, Mediator, and Intimidator are not three separate people. All
interviewers can wear all three hats with ease and they can change from one to the other in a second.

Type of Negotiator – Accommodator I

Negotiating with an Accommodator is like getting waited on at a restaurant. They are highly cooperative and will
give you everything you want. You have the upper hand because the employer needs the position filled. They want
you to be happy and accept that job offer.

Super Steps – How to Negotiate With the Accommodator

1

Show your engagement by repeating the details of the offer.

First things first, you should start by thanking the Accommodator for the offer. While expressing your thanks, repeat back each part of the offer they mentioned to you. Make sure to ask for confirmation after sharing your interpretation.

2

Allow them to respond.

Here is where you will listen carefully to the Accommodator’s response. They will correct you if you misheard or restated the offer incorrectly. You might even receive additional information if they accidentally forgot to mention something. If you accurately understood their Offer, they will reply, “Yes, that is correct.”

3

Ask the POWER
question.

Here is where you will listen carefully to the Accommodator’s response. They will correct you if you misheard or restated the offer incorrectly. You might even receive additional information if they accidentally forgot to mention something. If you accurately understood their Offer, they will reply, “Yes, that is correct.”

Keep Asking For More Until They Say No

Your POWER question contained the magical words to open the floodgates! Remember, the employer needs YOU, and you need to negotiate what will work best for you. The Accommodator will provide you with an additional bump in your salary due to your transferable experience. They will give you that extra week off to have a vacation from your vacation. You will receive so many “yes’s” that you won’t know what to do with yourself. At some point, they will transition to either a Mediator or an Intimidator. Especially if they think you are making too many requests. Stay tuned! You will learn how to negotiate with a Mediator and Intimidation in the next few episodes.
