The saying goes, Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” The choice is pretty simple. You can choose a job where you feel drained, unappreciated, and undervalued or pursue a purpose-filled career for a company that respects and supports you. A job is more than a paycheck. It s how you spend 40-60 hours of your life every week. A Gallup poll in 2017 revealed that 85% of working people hate their current jobs. That’s tragic, but it doesn’t have to be you! You can be someone who finds satisfaction and enjoyment in their work, helping increase that 15%.
Applicant Tracking System (ATS) = A computer software program used by employers to collect and sort through thousands of online applications. It speeds up the hiring process for recruiters by searching for keywords on the application and resumes by filtering through potential hires. While it may be time-efficient, it weeds out the majority of amazing applicants (that’s you!).
Too many people waste countless hours filling out online job applications, never to hear back from the company. This approach is frustrating, enormously time consuming, and doomed to failure. The majority of online applications are rarely seen by human eyes, instead being read by bots (aka the Applicant Tracking System, ATS for short). On average, 180 people apply for the same job but only one person will actually get it. The bot is choosing the top candidates for that one position/job.
The real tragedy is that if you don’t focus your job search on companies that match your values and career goals, you’re doomed to get yet another job you don’t like. Stop relying on random luck by filling out hundreds of online job applications.
Connecting with others is the way to finding the fulfilling job you want but first, you have to know where thoseconnections are. Once you’ve found your target companies, you’ll be able to put the time and energy intonurturing relationships with people who work there
Before you can aim, you have to choose a target. What are your top 9 companies? Why do you think you’ll behappier working there than with other companies? Determining your target companies requires a bit of researchand reflection, but without it, you’re just shooting arrows in the dark. Don’t settle for any old job! Start designingyour life how you would like it to be! Take control of your own destiny by targeting companies you WANT to work for. A good archer is known not by their arrows but by their aim. With practice, you’ll become a skilled archer and hit the bullseye.
