Here is how to create your experience section:

1Add in your work experience.

2Make sure all names, dates, etc. are all accurate.

3List your Accomplishments, not just job details. Focus on specific times you helped the company move forward, like coming with an idea to solve a company-wide problem.

4 Use keywords, remember what we talked about in the last episode? Keywords and phrases are how hiring managers and recruiters are searching for you.List your Accomplishments, not just job details. Fill in your Job Description.

List your accomplishments, not just job details! This is best done by citing a problem, describing your action and quantifying the result. For example: “I promoted team building, cross-functional training, and employee communication; thereby, increasing productivity by 15%.

And don’t forget to use those keywords! Remember what we talked about in the last episode? Those little buggers are how hiring managers and recruiters are finding you, so make sure you’ve got them in there!

job-description

Here’s a Tip:

You can write your job description in paragraph form, but most of the time, a bulleted list is better for readability. LinkedIn doesn’t let you format text into a list, but you can cheese it by using ALT+0149 to make your own bullets! Now if only they would let you get that Red Rider Bee Bee Gun you’ve always wanted, so you could put someone’s eye out!

5

Add in any project/work samples, presentations, or other media you may have that relates to this job!

You can do this by clicking Upload to upload a document, or Link to give a URL they can follow if it’s on a site somewhere. They say the proof is in the pudding. Well, give them the pudding, too! It’s always a plus when you can showcase your work!

6

Make sure Share with network is toggled Off.

This will prevent LinkedIn from announcing your job change to the world like a crier at a Renaissance Faire. If you want to share it, by all means, go ahead, but we’re all about hogging the glory while we’re setting up, especially if this is a past job.

7

Click Save.

8

You’ve got new job experience!

Scroll down your profile and you’ll find your new entry under the Experience section! If you want to add another, you can simply click the Plus sign on the right side of the section, or you can edit your experience by clicking the Pencil.

Let's Review Again: Why 500 Connections?

It’s important to get your profile to hit 500 connections. By doing so, your profile will show up more in searches because you’ll have more 1st and 2nd connections to the employees of the job you daydream about.

Start by adding people from our very own LinkedIn page, people who work in industries that you’re interested in, or people who have similar interests as you.

When you get to 500, you’ll start getting more views and invites. Having more views and invites will impress recruiters and hiring managers to take a look at your skill sets. In turn, you’ll increase your national and global presence and people will find you credible because you’re connected!

Finally, a larger audience means more people see your posts! You could be a graphic designer, someone interested in HR, or a financial guru. Whatever’s in your bag, it all brings more intrigue to your personality and personal brand.

Now go out there and make your LinkedIn profile stand out like a Catholic priest with a septum piercing!

We are already so excited about next week where we will talk about “Attracting Recruiters Like Bees to Honey”. Have a SUPER DAY!
