If you did the homework, go to our Private LinkedIn Membership Community and let us know what happened! If there’s a burning question, or you just got stuck, let us know on the LinkedIn page and we will help unstick you. Your victories are our victories!

It’s okay! We promise it’s totally normal to have these feelings. We understand that it can be a little daunting to put yourself out there and meet new people, especially when they hold your career dreams in the palm of their hands (not to add pressure or anything). However, if people are judging you for being yourself, that’s THEIR problem. Not yours.

Just think that they were once in the same position as you and may even understand the pressure you feel. If you are genuinely you, the right kind of people will be drawn to you, and they will see the asset that you can be for their company. Honesty and reliability are important when meeting a potential employer. Regardless, remember, We are here to help you!

The First... Gulp... Date

Are you ready for long walks on the beach? Romantic dinners? Rose petals? Boxes of chocolate? Butterflies in your stomach? Maybe a bit of playful banter? Well, look no further!

Okay, we can’t necessarily guarantee you all the romantic stereotypes of the ages, but we can help you with your “first date” with those you have been reaching out to on LinkedIn! Just as exciting right? And don’t worry! We can see your future, and you’ll find that special someone… very soon!

Why do we call it a first date, you might ask? Similar to a first date with someone that you are interested in romantically, the first meeting with these business professionals will be an informal gathering where you can get to know them.

It is a chance to see how they got to where they are today professionally and personally. Think of it as a cupcake without frosting. It still tastes good, but it’s more serious. Just like a first date, there has to be a mutual connection! That spark! Have you felt that before? Ahh, love…

Oh, sorry! We’re getting sidetracked! For those business professionals to help you out, they have to feel that you can add value to their team, to their company, and to their personal lives. Similarly, you have to feel like developing a relationship with this individual is worth your efforts.

You want to make sure that the company would be a good fit for you and the employer. Give it time, don’t rush it. It’s like planning the perfect moment for the first kiss. Just make sure it stays professional, all right? Awkward…

Why Should I Set Up a First Date, Anyhow?

We understand that the first date or first meeting can be daunting! But trust us on this one when we say the pros definitely outweigh the cons! Here is a shortlist of just a FEW of the benefits of setting up that first date:

We understand that the first date or first meeting can be daunting! But trust us on this one when we say the pros definitely outweigh the cons! Here is a shortlist of just a FEW of the benefits of setting up that first date:

1

You will hear first-hand stories about the company that you are interested in working for.

This will be helpful because often all the research in the world can’t amount to what you can discover about a company through a verbal one-on-one conversation with an employee who has experienced it first hand. You can let out your inner spy and ask all those burning questions you’ve been so curious about!

2

It can lead to more interview opportunities.

Show this individual that you are serious, hardworking, and perfect for the job! The company would much rather interview people that their employees recommend rather than those random resume droppers. They might even refer you for an interview!

3

You can discover new potential career paths!

If this person has your dream job you can ask them what they did to get there. Discovering more about their career path can help you learn what you need to do to get to your dream job. It might inspire you to want to take a similar journey. It could even draw your attention to careers you didn’t even know existed or were unfamiliar with. Like collecting pieces of a map so you can explore more confidently.

4

You will get insider information about the goings-on of the company that you can toss out during your interview.

This is your mission! The interviewer will be impressed and see that you have put a lot of time and thought into your preparation! It shows you have more to off than just your skills listed on the resume.

Take Us Home, Beatles!

“Can’t buy me love
Everybody tells me so
Can’t buy me love
No, no, no, no”

Wow, who knew the Beatles were job-seeking connoisseurs? Or maybe they were talking about romantic love? Hmm.. the world may never know. Either way, they got one thing right when they said that you cannot buy these types of relationships. They are PRICELESS! They will help you get your foot in the door, you will be more likely to get an interview, and ultimately more likely to land that dream job.
