All strong relationships have reciprocity and mutual benefit at their core. By agreeing to meet with you, your connection has decided to take time out of their busy schedule to share knowledge with you. Here are a few tips on how to show your appreciation and keep them coming back:

1

Offer them any talents or skills that you may have.

We’re not suggesting you offer to work for their company for free, but to work for them on a personal level. You want to invest in them as a person, and not just as an asset! One day they might say “Hey remember that guy who used to come here… We want him!”

2

Always end with your why and call to action.

As we mentioned before, you need to set up the next meeting before your current one ends. You never want to leave a meeting without having your next steps figured out. Think about what talents/skills you can exchange before you go to the meeting and make those suggestions.

3

Leverage your assets to further your relationship.

The assets you use don’t have to only be work-related. You can also use similar interests and hobbies to your advantage. For example, if you both enjoy sewing you can invite them to a textile trade show in your free time or if they enjoy Doctor Who, crack open your Doctor Who knowledge and get nerdy! We are defined by our actions, by what we do and like! This will lead to powerful networking! For more information on networking, check out the link below!
