Facing your Fears

Do you have any problems with identifying your skills, talents, and achievements? We get it! It’s difficult to brag about yourself..it’s surprisingly not as easy as Beyonce makes it look. So instead of asking your friends or parents “Hey, what I am good at?” You should think about the set of skills related to the job you’re applying for. Also because your mom will probably say that “you should run for president”.

However, being able to sell yourself  is a vital skill on LinkedIn, where HR and hiring managers can see your skills. You want to highlight your best assets, especially the ones that will help you land your dream job.

Having lots of  experiences gives you a lot of skills and also makes it so your profile is viewed much more. So mention that you are a writer, that you excel in Microsoft Office, and that you bake a mean lemon meringue! It shows that you have a whole smorgasbord of skills under your belt! If you lack experience don’t stress out about it! Everybody has something they’re good at! You can always mention skills gained through your classes or internships as well.

The universal phrase “I can do anything” won’t help you to get the job. Your employer is looking for a particular skill that others don’t have.

Also, be mindful that you want to be known for specific skills that you’re doing now. Let’s not focus on skills or achievements that happened years and years ago. You don’t need to mention the 2000 high school state championship that you won. Don’t be the person who peaked in high school. Keep moving forward!

Use The Law of Attraction to Get the Job!

Ahh… the Law of Attraction. Sounds a bit complicated, right? Well although this program may not give the step by step instructions for getting the most dates or the most free drinks at the bar, we can definitely help you with getting more recruiters coming to you!

It’s not rocket science. The better you look, the more attention you’ll receive. And we’re not talking about your pretty face. What are the skills that can attract a potential employer? These skills need to be added to your LinkedIn profile.

We have just the right sauce to help you look better and in turn get you more attention from HR and hiring managers. And with more attention from them comes more job offers and allows you to have more of a choice of where or who you want to work with. As college students and recent grads, you may still be trying to figure out your career path and having options will be helpful.

Why Your Skills/Endorsements and Recommendations Are Powerful!

Adding your skills and recommendations gets you higher rankings in searches! It’s like being in the top ten percent of your class, and who doesn’t want to graduate with honors? People who list more than 5 skills get 17x more profile views! Great right!

Skills with lots of endorsements show that you’re proficient in the work you do. It’s like your professor praising you for doing good work on an assignment. It shows others you know what you’re doing and feels good too. Recommendations from other connections on LinkedIn will give you the “3rd Person Effect”. Having an internship can help you make professional connections. You can use these connections to ask for endorsements and recommendations.

What is the “3rd Person Effect” you ask? It’s simple. Have you ever wondered why people use testimonials on ads?

Because they work! What about getting a referral from someone? There’s a reason why people leave comments on their YouTube pages despite the trolls and haters. Having someone recommend you will make people more comfortable with hiring you.

“3rd Person Effect” works because in this day and age we need to hear another perspective to believe something. You wouldn’t try out that new restaurant off-campus without getting good reviews from your friends first, right?

I mean, come on. When is the last time you bought something on Amazon without reading at least a few of the reviews?
