Frustrations and Apprehensions: Working for Companies That You Didn’t Align With

Searching for a job that aligns with your values is like picking out what college you want to attend. When you weigh your college offers, you choose to enroll in the college that best suits your needs. How you choose what college you go to is dependent on the types of majors, the cost of enrollment, and the classes offered. Even the teachers and students are a deciding factor on if the college fits your needs.

For example, if you’re trying to become a doctor, then you’d choose a college that has a great medical field program, right? Also, you wouldn’t want to have a teacher who’s a jerk or be in a class where students are disruptive to your learning. Otherwise, why waste your money attending?

When it comes to job employment, think the same way. Make sure your employer and fellow employees are the types of people you want to work with. If not, you’ll end up being miserable. You don’t want your work experience to lead you to a life of late-night karaoke bars, drinking your pain away to alcohol every Friday night, so be smart! Somewhere, there’s a job that will value you!

Why You Need to Align Yourself with a Company

A company’s values dictate the actions they take. Likewise, your values dictate the actions you take. So why not work together if you have common goals? Somewhere, there’s a match made in heaven just waiting to happen!

Core values that are relevant to you are things like an inquiring mind, exceptional research skills, ability to think and work independently, perseverance, and teamwork. Remember, a company and you are in a relationship. The better your connection is with a company, the better you’ll feel working within it. Like any relationship, it takes work to keep it healthy. So while good morning texts and late-night dinners are sweet and affectionate, they mean little if there’s no respect and care between partners.

Can you imagine working in a place that values and respects you? Shocker, right? Well, there’s a company out there that needs you just as much as you need it. When you align your values, you increase your personal and professional life satisfaction and your feelings of personal success, which will make you more productive.

You’ll feel committed to the organization because they are committed to you! Having a company that values you is like finding your soulmate. Yeah, just because you’re a recent grad or a college student, doesn’t mean love cannot find you. So hold your head up! You never know when a recruiter is ready to sweep you off your feet.
