It’s All About the Numbers

While reaching out can be scary, it is important to face your fears. Developing these connections will advance your career just by knowing more people and having them know you. As a college student or recent grad, this will help you begin to make a name for yourself outside your college campus. You will learn new ideas. These people may give you an outside perspective on certain career fields you hadn’t even thought about. Networking helps you expand your career opportunities as well.

This is why networking and building relationships are so important. The numbers don’t lie folks!

It’s important to set up a meeting with your connections once you start reaching out. Face-to-face meetings can help build personal connections and feel more organic.

If you live far away from them, do a Skype meeting or Face-time them! You want to see them and have them see you. When you see someone in person you can pick up on certain visual cues, such as body language or facial expressions. Things in their environment can also tell you something about them. Maybe you can see inside their office and you see a cool painting behind them, a picture of their family, or if their office is a wreck with clutter or if it is pristine. All these bits of information give you clues to the type of person they are.
