You got the first “date”, now it’s time to get another one! This may seem like the tricky part, just like in relationships. But we’re here to guide you!
1 Offer them any talents or skills that you may have.
It’s all about reciprocity – exchange talents/skills/etc. for mutual benefit. You want to show how you would be beneficial to the other person, not just how they can help you. Don’t be the group member that doesn’t help with the project! Here’s an example: If you work in IT and can help them fix a problem, offer your free help! Or if you are a great writer, offer to help them with their LinkedIn profile!
2 Have ideas ready before the first meeting.
This way you are more prepared and have things to talk about. For example, “I am getting a degree in business would love to discuss strategies that can help your company expand further.”
Here’s an Example
3 Always end with your why and call to action
Never ever leave a meeting without having your next steps figured out. You don’t want to leave being confused about who is going to reach out next and end up playing the waiting game. You are too busy for that!
4 Remember to leverage your assets to further the relationship!
For example, if you are good with numbers offer your expertise to the company’s budgeting or financial areas. The assets don’t always have to be work-related. If you and the person are both into films, showcase your movie knowledge. This will help further the connection. It’s all about bringing your best qualities forward and showcasing all those skills you spent countless nights improving upon!
