Frustrations and Apprehensions about Writing Your Summary!

We know that for some people writing may not be their strong suit, and that’s ok! When writing your summary, you may be unsure exactly what you want to say. It may be hard to decide what information is important to add and what information you should leave out. Don’t forget to emphasize any remote skills and experiences that are relevant to your desired career field.

In this section, you only have a limited amount of space, so deciding what information is relevant may be difficult. You may also be struggling to target the right kind of people. But don’t worry.

We are here to help with this! Instead of binge-watching the office for the fourth time or watching another Tik Tok take time to think through your summary to make it sparkle! You may also be worried that employers will judge you based on what you write. We know it can be scary to put your experiences— REMOTE and NON-REMOTE— out there for all to see. But it’s not about what everyone thinks, just the people you want to attract to your profile. Don’t worry about what that one mean girl you went to high school with thinks about it.  Instead, just focus on gaining the attention from potential employers.

Having the perfect summary is an important part of the process, and we will explain why below.

Having the perfect summary is an important part of the process, and we will explain why below.

Why Your Summary is Important!

The summary section is the most interesting part of your profile and tells who you are, professionally and personally. It shows recruiters what skills you have and all the achievements you have made, both personally and professionally.

Your summary also increases your search ranking. LinkedIn is a search engine, like Google or Bing. This means the higher you rank, the more views your profile will get. This could lead to more opportunities in the future. So, make your profile the hottest place on LinkedIn! With the pandemic, everyone is doing more job searching online, and so LinkedIn is becoming more popular now than ever.

To do this, add keywords relating your summary that relates to your desired career, such as, I don’t know, REMOTE? Don’t worry we will cover this topic more in the next episode.
