Clarity with the values and beliefs you live by will give you great insight into whether or not you would be a good fit for a company and enjoy working there. Having a good relationship with an employer on this baseline level is necessary to feel good about yourself and about what you do for a living.
With money being tight right now, it may be easy to snag the first job you can get, but make sure it’s one that aligns with your values and beliefs. You may feel uneasy about the prospect of finding a job you may not end up being happy doing, and that’s is exactly what we will help resolve in this lesson. You’re preparing to journey through unknown territory. It can be stressful and even scary to think about what awaits you.
However, properly preparing yourself for this adventure will bring you more comfort than even the finest roadside motel. Aligning your beliefs with your target company is as important as aligning the tires on your car, except you can do it without a mechanic ripping you off! Your dream job is the ultimate destination and you don’t want to end up swerving off this road to success because you neglected to do some essential maintenance. Just think, once you arrive in Remote Job City, you won’t even need a car because you’ll be driving your new life from the seat you’re in right now without leaving your home.

The thought of changing careers in such unsettling times can be terrifying. This is completely understandable! There is no shame in taking any job you can get as a solution to make a quick buck. However, the longer you hold on to an unfulfilling job without effort towards a more fulfilling career, the longer your list of lame excuses as to why things aren’t the way you want them to be will grow. If you feel like your work is meaningful and contributes to the progress of something you can stand up for, you’ll stop dreading waking up and working every day of your life.
If you feel like your work is meaningful and contributes to the progress of something you can stand up for, you’ll stop dreading waking up and working every day of your life. This is why you and your ideal employer’s values should have a lot in common. It’s like going on a first date with someone and they immediately tell you they can’t wait to have children do all the manufacturing. THEY ARE NOT THE ONE!

Think about all of the jobs you truly hated. What exactly was wrong with them? Did you hate the work or just your boss? Was it the entire company and their mission? Did you ever take a job you weren’t excited about? How’d that go? Probably not great since you’re here looking for change. It’s O.K. These simple details about your past will give you a gauge of what you already know you don’t need or want in your future.
Do your research and make sure you know about the company you’re trying to get involved with. Not only will knowing more about a company’s history help you in the interview process, but it will also help you take a dud off the list before you find yourself serving a business that doesn’t serve you.
Our goal here is to help you find a job that makes you feel powerful. Not the “I’m gonna crush you like the cockroach you are!” money-grubbing, sleazy kind of powerful. The “I can make my dreams a reality!” self-driven, confident kind of powerful. The only reason we do this is for the happiness you deserve! It’s that simple.
One side effect of the Covid-19 outbreak is that it gives us almost X-ray vision when evaluating a company’s values. You can see how a company values you as the employee based on what they did to protect their employee’s health and livelihood during this time. Take some time to research or even ask in an interview, “What was your company’s response to the Covid-19 outbreak?” and then ask yourself, “Is that how I would want to be treated the next time the company faces a crisis?”
