Action Time: Around 1-3 hours

1Always present your employer with a written notice.

The written notice tells your employer that you appreciate all that they have done for you and that you respect them. The notice should be a letter consisting of:

  • The current date.
  • Statement of gratitude. Thank them for the time they spent on you, the experience you gained, and the opportunities that the job opened up for you.
  • What you enjoyed about the company and well wishes for the future.
  • Your signature.

2Meet with your boss/supervisor in-person.

As a point of courtesy, make a one on one appointment with your immediate supervisor to present the letter.

Avoid burning bridges!

4Send the letter to the Human Resources department.

This creates a paper trail, just in case you need this information in the future.

5You may receive a counter offer from your current employer.

Always consider this before turning in your official resignation. Determine what you want or need in order to stay with the company if your current company has deemed it worthy to make a counter offer.
