Okay wow! New job, new you, right?

You are at your new job and you are likely feeling excited and nervous!

We want to help you shake those nerves off a bit so you can do more happy dancing in the mirror rather than nervous crying in the bathroom.

What’s the solution you might ask? A plan for excellence!

A plan for excellence is integral before you join your dream job.

It lays out a course of action  at your new job and helps you provide a great first impression. Living in the clouds works great for blimp operators but not so much for people looking to smash into the workplace with a fury. Setting concrete goals for you to hit within your tenure is what will make sure that all the hard work you put into getting where you are is paying off! Besides, it ensures that you deliver on things you promised during the hiring process.

This plan isn’t like your new year resolutions saying “we should catch up” to your high school friends over thanksgiving. You can’t backtrack from this plan. Your plan for excellence is like stress chopping off and dying your hair into a purple pixie cut: a bold plan that you’re cemented in.

Your plan for excellence allows you to determine ways that you can go above and beyond what they want in the role and become productive quickly. By hitting your goals and the company goals, you become a valuable team player and make hiring managers weak in knees with how good they were for hiring you.

Advocate for yourself! We hope that being part of the trans & gender non-conforming community  has taught you how important it is to advocate for yourself because YOU MATTER! We need to do everything in our own power to make it so we succeed. By creating this plan, you’re not only building yourself up through attainable goals, but also showing the company that you’re worth every dime and more.

How to Create a Plan for Excellence

1 Sit down and determine your goals for the first day, first week, and so on. You want these goals to be centered on the main priorities of the job, things that you promised you would achieve during the hiring process, and the company and team priorities. Make sure that these goals and measurable and attainable!

2

Return back to these goals for benchmarking. Make a timeline of when you will take a personal look at how you are doing in your goals.

Set a time once a week or however often you need to do it in to your schedule. This is what that puppy of the month calendar in your office is for! Accountability is key!

Remember:

Creating a list of goals and priorities is great for your career, but never forget the importance of good networking! You should also continue to meet new people and grow your connections.
