Week 3: Attracting Recruiters Like Bees to Honey

Recruiters Are Friends, Not Food!

Video Time: 5 Minutes     Action Time: 30 – 60 Minutes

Believe it not, recruiters are your friends. Once you understand the differences in recruiter types, you’ll see why.

There are two types: Retained recruiters and contingency recruiters.

Retained:

They get paid up front to find the RIGHT people. Their goal is to look for the perfect LONG-TERM employee and not just to throw a body into the ranks. They will take their time, and if you don’t fill their needs for the time being, you are likely to hear back from them again down the line for another position, especially if they like you.

It’s like a failed relationship. They may call you again later on! Their best quality? They will give you honest feedback if you don’t get the job, though unlike a failed relationship, with less profanity and restraining orders (hopefully).

Contingency:

They’re scrappy little buggers.

They are usually independent contractors that only get paid if they fill the position so they tend to work with a sense of urgency, they may be given a deadline of only two weeks. They want someone there yesterday or they don’t get paid. If you don’t fill their needs, you will likely never hear from them again. That’s ok though! Don’t take it personally. One recruiter’s trash is another recruiter’s treasure.
